
Thomas Jeffrey Hanks, born on July 9, 1956, is an American actor. Popular for his comedic and dramatic roles, he's one of the most admired and well-known film actors worldwide and is considered an American popular culture icon. Thomas Jeffrey Hanks was the father of Janet Marylyn, a hospital worker, as well as Amos Mefford Hanks (an itinerant chef). The family of his mother, initially surnamed "Fraga" and was 100% Portuguese, while his father was of mostly English ancestry. Tom was raised in the family he refers to as "fractured". He did not have any experience in acting in college and credits his inability get cast in a college production with starting his career. He attended a downtown audition to be cast in a play at the theater for community members. The director offered him a trip to Cleveland and that was where his acting career began.
